Why We Have Viter Energy Caffeine Mints and Gum (Full Disclaimer)
At first thought, energy mints and gum do not fit our brand. But after Viter Energy at goviter.com reached out to us and asked if we would be interested in doing a partnership around the products they provide. We got to thinking.
Travelers get tired either from waking up early or needing to stay out late. And sometimes we forget to brush our teeth because we have had a 37-hour travel day across the globe. It then dawned on us, that this type of product might actually be something we would be interested in and could get behind!
Viter was interested in having us do a Viter Energy Review video specifically on their caffeinated mints and caffeinated gum. Then they found out we have a website as well and asked for us to incorporate a Viter Energy Review blog post into the package.
We agreed on everything and they sent us the Viter Energy Caffeine Mints – 5 Flavor Variety Pack, Viter Energy Extra Strength Caffeine Mints – 3 Flavor Variety Pack, and the Viter Energy Caffeine Gum – 2 Flavor Variety Pack to test out and include in our overall Viter Energy Review.

A Few Questions
Are Viter Energy Mints High in Caffeine?
Yes and no.
They have two Viter Energy mint strengths. The normal caffeine mint has 40mg caffeine. When doubled up, you achieve roughly the same amount of caffeine in one cup of coffee!
Now, the extra strength Viter Energy mint jam packs two mints into one. Ultimately getting 80 milligrams of caffeine in a single mint.
Therefore, one or two mints of either strength are not very much, but if you are poppin’ mints all day long that could be too much!
Is Viter Energy Gum High in Caffeine?
The Viter Energy gum sits between the regular mints and extra strength mints in terms of caffeine content. The caffeinated gum yields 60 milligrams of caffeine. Brings you up to almost one cup of joe equivalent.
How long does it take for the caffeine to start working?
All their products have a “fast oral sublingual and buccal absorption” for an immediate and quick release. Providing a refreshing boost within minutes. That’s 5X faster than drinks!
I’m not sure what all that means, but I’m pretty sure it’s science for you don’t need to chew on this all day to get your caffeine boost!
Are Viter Energy Mints and Gum Good for Travel?
Although the company started when two guys didn’t want to bring energy drinks to a concert with the chance of forfeiting their coveted spots right at the feet of Dave Mathews Band for needing to go pee. It does not mean there is just one use for the caffeinated mints and gum.
Using the Viter Energy products in situations of travel where you can’t find an energy drink or a cup of coffee is the perfect solution to a common problem. All you need to do is pull a breath mint out of your pocket or bag, pop one or two in your mouth, and wait a little bit to give you that extra bit of energy!
Long story short…YES!
Is Viter Energy Safe?
According to us, and the times that we have used them. We have not had any issues. That is just anecdotally speaking. We are not doctors and cannot say for sure for you. With that being said, I don’t think they would be in business and boasting two thousand plus positive customer reviews on their website if it wasn’t safe.
Nonetheless, it is probably a good idea to consult your doctor about any caffeine consumption especially if you have a history of problems involving caffeine!
Our Experiences with Viter Energy
We received the products just before heading down to Mexico for 6-weeks. So we thought, what a perfect way to test out and to fully understand the products that we would be reviewing. We did not want to do a Viter Energy review without really testing it. We take reviews seriously!
Leading up to our first use of the mints…
We moved out of our home and were preparing to move into our van full-time. As always, we leave things to the ABSOLUTE last minute. We were scrambling for literally the past 24 hours to move out and be at the airport no later than 3 AM for a 5:30 departure. After what seemed like a blur, we ACTUALLY made it to the airport on time with literally zero sleep. However, we were totally exhausted and needed something to give us a bit of a boost.
Looking around for some coffee was not happening because in our small airport NOTHING was open at that hour. Then we remembered, that we have some Viter Energy products to test out and review!
First thoughts…
We quickly popped a couple of the wintergreen flavor caffeine mints in our mouths and were not enthused at first. We had never had a caffeinated mint before. So the initial flavor seemed a bit chemically. But after it started to dissolve on the tongue the wintergreen flavor really started to take off.
We are not sure if the chemical flavor is the caffeine or the flavoring or some combination of both. Nonetheless, it goes away and the mint is quite enjoyable afterward.
The caffeine hit…
We didn’t know how our bodies would take the caffeine in this form. So we started with just one and waited a few minutes. Nothing was happening and I knew I was absolutely exhausted from being up all night packing and moving. I took another.
Sometimes when I drink coffee that is really strong, I can actually feel the caffeine hit. Almost like it’s flowing through my veins.
But with the Viter Energy mints, that never happened. I suppose I could have taken three or four mints to achieve the “hit” but that wasn’t my goal. I wanted a boost to wake me up and get me through my flights down to Mexico and that is exactly what it did.
All in all, I never felt an instant surge of energy, it was a gradual onset of having more energy to stay awake and complete my travel day.
More scenarios…
Periodically while down in Mexico, traveling between towns, we would skip morning coffee and need a boost of energy in the day. We always kept a package of gum and a tin container of mints in our fanny pack. This was perfect for those just-in-case scenarios of needing just a little bit of a pick-me-up! We loved having them with us. Especially because so much of our trip wasn’t planned. We always had the peace of mind knowing that we had some boost of energy at the ready!
What We Like About Viter Energy
We love the origin story of the company. Like the packaging of the products. Enjoy how travel friendly they are. The flavors, including chocolate mint. They’re sugar free. And we love the ease of use of the Viter Energy products. Anyone can fit the breath mints in their pocket, fanny pack, backpack; basically anywhere. Easily pop one (or two) in the mouth and carry on with whatever it was you were doing. Never needing to sacrifice time for standing in line to purchase a drink!
Viter Energy Mints Review
We have to be honest here in this Viter Energy caffeinated mints review… This is not a style of product that we typically have on us. Never would you see us just popping mints or gum for that matter. Traveling or not. We just don’t consume breath mints or gum. But we do love coffee and caffeine. Sorta have a caffeine addiction. So when we were asked to review Viter Energy mints and gum, we thought, hmm, maybe this is a good product to add to the arsenal of travel accessories.
The mints sorta have a chemical taste to start and then fade to the flavor labeled on the packaging. The mints are all very strong and absolutely give you a sense of fresh breath. Definitely a bit spicy, to be honest. But I like that.
The thing that I like most about the mints is that it is a quick burst of flavor, while simultaneously adding caffeine to the system. Voiding my head of a potential headache when coffee isn’t an option.
We love the packaging and the storage tin the mints call home. It is resealable and they stay fresh for a long time. And there aren’t too many or too few in each container. 20 to be exact.

Pricing
When I saw the price of a 5 pack of mints, I was kinda blown away by how much it was. It is $19.99. Four bucks a container?! Seems like a lot. But then when you think that two mints equal one coffee and you can get ten coffee equivalents in one tin container, you’re basically saving fifteen bucks or more per container. So it’s a pretty good deal! And even a better deal when you look at the extra strength Viter Energy Mints.
Also, the products are not meant to be consumed all day long like TicTac’s can be. You use the mints when you need a substitute and that is what’s great about the mints!
Now, in regards to the Extra Strength Viter Energy Mints, it’s even a better deal. Yeah, each mint is slightly more–roughly five cents more per mint, but you get 2-times the caffeine! So I would recommend getting the extra strength. Unless you’re really wanting the chocolate flavor and spearmint flavor only offered in the regular strength mints.
Viter Energy Gum Review
We like gum. And again, adding caffeine to gum is something we have never tried before. So we had some hesitation in doing this Viter Energy review about caffeinated energy gum.
I knew it was a thing because of a similar product called RunGum. I (Jason) have always been a runner and knew about this product designed around running and getting some boost of energy before workouts and races. So I was pretty excited to have it and test it out. But in the given circumstance, the caffeinated gum would be reviewed and tested around travel!
The gum has a very similar flavor profile as the mints. And with only two flavors available, there are not many opportunities to find a flavor you can enjoy. I prefer the spearmint flavor of the mints the most. And that one isn’t available in the gum.
You only get winter green and cinnamon. I believe the wintergreen has the most chemically tasting initial flavor just like the mints do, but just as the mints quickly get to the main flavor, so does the gum.
As far as the cinnamon goes, I am not a huge fan of it. It is really spicy to me. More than what I typically like. And it just reminds me of wintertime. I wish they had the same flavor options for gum as they do for the mints.
As one chews the gum, the flavor sticks around for a bit. Not nearly as long as some of the most popular gums on the market. But again, the whole purpose of these products is to provide a quick punch of energy when you need it. Then it is just kinda nice to gnaw on for a bit and discard. I think the longest I chewed a piece of gum was for a couple of hours on a plane. That was probably too long.
One major thing that I love about the gum is how each piece of gum is individually packaged. Keeping all the rest safe and preserved for future use!
Which is Better? Energy Mints or Energy Gum??
If I had to choose between mints or gum, I would choose gum every time..in most scenarios. However, when caffeine is involved, things are different.
There is one major issue separating the two products. The price per milligram of caffeine in the gum is more than twice the price of the price per milligram in the extra strength mints. At a rate of .8 cents to .3 cents per milligram of caffeine.
If the sole purpose of the Viter Energy products is to provide you with a fast-acting caffeine supplement. Well then. I am going to buy the extra strength mints every single time.
I want the most caffeine and the best bang for my buck. So when comparing the extra strength mints to the gum–I am going to buy the Viter Energy Extra Strength Mints over the gum!
Final Thoughts and Who We Think These Caffeinated Mints & Gum Are Best For
No Viter Energy Review can be complete without one’s real-life feelings about the product in question. And then, more importantly, it comes down to trusting the person who is writing the review and taking their honest review to heart. Ultimately arriving at an informed conclusion on whether or not the reader should buy the product or look elsewhere for something similar.

There may not be anything better than having a Viter Energy product sitting in your pocket or bag to help get you through. So we can highly recommend these products based on that.
These caffeinated products are certainly not going to find themselves in our essential travel product list, but they will definitely be an easy add-on to any trip.
