Heather Arbour
A three-month teaching internship in Africa changed the trajectory of Heather’s life. She had gone to Western Oregon University to study Education, earning her Oregon teaching license with an ESOL certificate and a focus in mathematics — but it was that time abroad that showed her what was possible beyond the classroom.
In 2014 she and her husband started traveling, and Heather started writing — professionally, consistently, and without stopping. What began as a blog documenting a US road trip and a backpacking journey through South America grew into ArboursAbroad LLC, with Heather at the helm as lead writer for over ten years. Hundreds of published articles, 43 countries, five places called home, and nearly 40 US states later, that commitment to honest, experience-led travel writing hasn’t changed.

Heather’s Expertise
Heather’s path to travel writing started in a classroom. She studied Education at Western Oregon University, earning her Oregon teaching license with an ESOL certificate and a focus in mathematics. Before graduating, she completed a three-month teaching internship in Africa — an experience that cracked open her world view and planted the seed for a life built around travel.
In 2014, she and her husband hit the road. What started as a simple blog to keep family and friends updated on a US road trip and a backpacking adventure through South America quietly grew into something much bigger. That blog became ArboursAbroad LLC — and Heather has been writing for it professionally ever since. Over ten years of published travel writing, she has sharpened her craft into something that goes far beyond trip recaps — delivering deeply researched, experience-led guides that readers and brands alike trust.
Over a decade of nearly non-stop travel later, Heather has visited 43 countries, called five of them home, and seen close to 40 US states.
