Cycling Winema Beach to Newport, Oregon
Today was brilliant! After a much-needed rest day, we were feeling great getting back on the bikes! The views when cycling Winema Beach to Newport along the Oregon Coast are simply breathtaking.
We saw whales today, ate loads of fresh blackberries right from the side of the road, and were just in awe of the beautiful Creation we were looking at the entire ride.

Heading into Newport, we would be staying with Heather’s grandmother’s family friend, and it being just a few short months after her grandmother’s passing, the ride was an emotional one, almost a tribute to her. The feelings the day brought were unmatchable.

Pacific Coast Highway Day Seven Journal Entry
Tuesday 10-11 Aug 2015 21:29
Day 7 (cycling) & 8 (rest): We got up early and took down camp at the beach. We went to Newport. The day had many sights to see. There were many overlooks and little towns to walk through. As we went through Depoe Bay, we stopped at a turnout and watched as a whale was playing in the water below, a few more miles down the road we watched a bunch of sea lions playing in the cove below.
For lunch, we stopped in Lincoln City to have Mo’s world-famous clam chowder. In the evening, we had arrived at the place we would be staying for two nights. We stayed with Heather’s grandma’s best friend’s daughter. She and her family welcomed us with open arms and had a wonderful meal prepared for us. It was such a great way to end the day.

Today was 47.4 miles with 2,454 feet of elevation. Grand total 345.49 miles.
The next day we rode to town and did the sights of Newport. We played at Ripley’s Wax Museum and under the sea museums for most of the day and hung out at Nye Beach for a little. In the evening, we went over the bridge to take the tour of Rogue Brewery and have dinner over there. Great food, a little slow, and because they dropped one of our burgers on the floor, our beers were free!
Not sure about elevation gains, but we did 14.5 miles around town today putting us at 359.99 for grand total on the trip.
