Cycling Newport to Honeyman State Park
Thor’s Well, Devil’s Chasm, Cape Perpetua, and more on the ride today! So many places to stop and pull off on the ride, making our five-hour cycle into a nine-hour day!! We stopped and truly enjoyed every single pullout there was to see down the Oregon coast today!
Today was the first day that Heather’s knee started bothering her. It’s something that still challenges her today when bending it too much with many days of cycling or hiking. But we made it through!
The day was overall great! The Oregon Coast is a coast for lovers, full of so much beauty and just calm that’s unlike anyplace else we’ve ever been.
While we didn’t have any major hills today, we had a BIG day in elevation reaching over 2,700 feet climbed. That slow and steady kind of climb is a bun burner for sure!

Pacific Coast Highway Day Eight Journal Entry

Day 8: Today was one of the most beautiful days of the trip so far. We cycled from Newport to Honeyman State Park. The weather was perfect. No wind. And Heather and I just took our time to really enjoy all the scenery. We stopped at Cape Perpetua, Thors Well, Devils Chasm, and another devil something I can’t remember.
We got on the road at about 10 am and weren’t at our campsite until just before 7. Heather’s knee was hurting her pretty bad today, so we had to get an ace bandage to wrap it up. The wrap helped a little, sure wasn’t a cure-all by all means.
Today we cycled 58.1 miles with an elevation of 2,745 ft. The total is 418.15 miles.
Cycler’s Tips for Newport to Honeyman State Park | PCH Day 8
- Loads of amazing views today. Be sure to stop and take them all in!
- A couple of places to stop include, Devil’s Chasm, Thor’s Well, and Cape Perpetua among many other great pull-outs!
- We learned a good lesson today, about it not being how quickly you get to one place or the next, but the importance of really slowing down and taking in all the sites around. Who knows when the next time you’ll be at a place like this!
- Although there’s not too big of a climb today, watch the elevation.. by the end all the little climbs add up — be sure to pack enough water and snacks for energy!
