We’ve hiked hundreds of miles in Sedona, and can say the Snoopy Rock Sedona hike is perfect for sunset for those looking for a bit of adventure.
This hike is partially on a social trail, so it can be tricky at times, but if you have hiking experience it’s easy to find the way.
We hiked Snoopy Rock in Sedona a bit unintentionally. We were actually looking to hike the easier Margs Draw trail but then saw a rock “blocking” a trail, and from our experience in Sedona, we knew it had to lead to something good!
And low and behold, we found ourselves on top of Snoopy Rock for an epic sunset spot in Sedona with incredible 360 views of the Munds Mountain Wilderness, and all of Sedona.

Why Is The Snoopy Rock Sedona Hike So Great?
Easy + Free Parking
We weren’t expecting to hike up to Snoopy Rock, but holy smokes, we’re glad we did. Our original plan was to hike Marg’s Draw, knowing that the parking there was not crowded and we could stay there all day — a huge perk of this trail.
If you’ve been to Sedona, you know that the parking is horrendous at most trailheads. We’ve been to multiple trailheads where cars are at a standstill, people honking, and others yelling, due to frustration of the lack of parking.
At Snoopy Rock via Marg’s Draw trailhead, you don’t have to worry about that!
The parking here is a a gravel lot, and we were the only ones there on a Friday night of Christmas break! Literally unheard of in Sedona!

Amazing 360 Views
Hiking up the Marg’s Draw connector trail from the parking lot on Sombart Lane, the views just keep getting better and better.
The parking area is tucked down in a little crevasse and jumping on the trail, there’s an immediate climb of stairs leading to a quick elevation gain.
At the top of the stairs, my jaw literally dropped at how beautiful the views were. But they only got better from there.
Before getting too far up the social trail, for those nervous about bushwhacking and trail finding, there’s a pretty established trail to the following coordinates, 34.857377, -111.753223, and the views there are just remarkable!
Continuing up to the top of Snoopy Rock, Sedona starts to peek out in all it’s glory! You can see all the major red rocks and whew, it will take your breath away.

Not A Normal Sedona Hike
The amount of times I’ve seen Cathedral Rock, Devils Bridge, Subway Cave, and Bell Rock Vortex as top hikes in Sedona kills me. I mean, yes, they’re all beautiful hikes.. but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend them with the parking chaos and crowded trails.
Snoopy Rock gives just as great of sunset views as Cathedral Rock, maybe even better views than Bell Rock and Devils Bridge.. and there’s virtually nobody hiking it.. or in our case, literally nobody else hiking it.
The fact that it’s not one of the blasted “top hikes in Sedona” makes the entire experience from parking to getting “the shot” way less stressful and way more enjoyable than other more normal hikes in the area.
Snoopy Rock Trail Guide
Park At Marg’s Draw Trailhead | Starting at Marg’s Draw Trailhead on Sombart Lane, take the connector trail towards Marg’s Draw. This leads you immediately into the Munds Mountain Wilderness.

Straight at the T | Continue on the connector trail until it t’s at a trail sign stating Marg’s Draw is left and right. At this “t” you’ll want to go straight behind the trail sign.. aka, not get onto Marg’s Draw.
Follow The Obvious Trail | The trail is super obvious and really wide for a social trail in Sedona. It leads directly to this big open flat space with amazing views at the following coordinates, 34.857377, -111.753223.

Look Up And See Snoopy Rock To The Left | At this big open viewpoint, you’ll see Snoopy Rock directly to the left. The trail starts to split in multiple ares and becomes a much thinner social trail. That’s okay! All trails lead to Snoopy!
Take The Path Of Least Resistance | As you continue your way towards Snoopy Rock, take the path that looks easiest to you. There are multiple different trails, all weaving in and out of eachother, all leading to the rock scramble up Snoopy Rock.

Start The Rock Scramble | Getting close to the base of the red rock, the rock scramble up the red rock begins. Again, there are multiple trails scrambling up the red rock. If one route is too difficult for you, head back down a bit and try a new one. They all lead to the top.
Scaling The Rocks | We ended up going to the very edge of Snoopy Rock to get the best views of sunset and Sedona. However, this meant we really had to scale the rocks to get up. While there are good hand holds to get to the photo spot Jay’s at.. to get to the spot I had to go to get the shot, I had to climb up the rock, laying completely flat on my belly.

Heading Back Down | We took a different route back down from Snoopy Rock Sedona than we took up. This is how we found out there were multiple trails leading to the top! It’s okay to take a different route down. Once you even back out, though, you should be on the same route you took up.

Don’t Forget These Things
We were so unprepared to do this hike. In fact, since we hadn’t planned at all to be out after sunset or any rock scrambling, we wore sandals and didn’t have headlamps or water!
Don’t be like us! Wear hiking shoes, these are the best hiking shoes for Sedona in our opinion, and bring a headlamp and water with you. Ideally all in a backpack so your hands are free as you do the rock scramble.
If you choose to do this hike during the day, be sure to wear sun protection, you don’t want to end up with skin cancer!
