When thinking of Las Vegas, things like gambling, walking the strip, fancy drinks, and incredible shows come to mind. But there’s another side to Vegas that honestly, we didn’t know existed.

An attraction that completely transports you from the Las Vegas strip to the mountain peaks of the Canadian Rockies, the beaches of the West Coast of the United States, and the breathtaking canyons of Iceland.

The Flyover Las Vegas, an “immersive flying journey” in Vegas you don’t want to miss.

Iceland, The Canadian Rockies, & The American West From A Different Perspective

Having been to each of the Flyover show locations when the opportunity to experience Flyover was presented to us, we knew we couldn’t pass it up.

And the Flyover experience was even better than we could have imagined. The way the seats move with the flight pattern, and the creative director’s shots paired with themed scents (think gunpowder when flying over a movie set), fresh breezes, and even mists of water at all the perfect times truly make you feel like you’re miles from the strip and on a completely different adventure.

The Flyover is truly more than a flying ride. It’s an immersive flying experience that really makes you feel you’re in a helicopter flying over each of the different locations.

We want to mention, that while we were guests of Pursuit Collection and Experience Flyover, all the opinions (and hype) in this post are our own!

The Las Vegas Flyover Journeys

There are currently three different Flyover journeys offered at the Las Vegas Flyover.

  • Windborne | Call Of The Canadian Rockies
  • Wonders Of The American West | The American West Coast
  • Legendary Iceland | Landscapes and Lore

With that said, there will soon be a Chicago show premiering in Vegas, check here for more details.

Flyover Experience Duration

Each Flyover experience lasts thirty minutes, with 8-10 minutes of actual show/ride time after a brief introduction to the location and a pre-show consisting of the history and culture of each place.

The Flyover Theaters

There are two separate fifty-two and a half foot spherical screens showing the Flyover Films.

Yes, you read that right… two 52 foot 6 inch screens, right on the Las Vegas Strip!

With two different theaters, each with 40 seats, 80 people can enjoy the Flyover “ride” at one time. However, with the setup of the experience as whole, 120 can be moving through the entire journey at any given point.

This is fantastic, because it makes for hardly any wait time to enjoy the Flyover

And you may be thinking, 40 people in one theater?! How do I really transport to a new location? Don’t worry… the theaters have two levels of seating (one is handicap accessible, more on that below) and the seats are positioned in a way that you cannot see the people above or below you.

In fact, unless you’re actively looking to see other people, I’d argue you can’t really tell there’s anyone around besides the people right next to you.

AND, when you allow yourself to become fully immersed in the flying experience, it’s just you, alone, flying through space, with views that will literally take your breath away.

What Exactly Is The Flyover Experience?

Windborne : Call Of The Canadian Rockies

Fly over 18 different locations in Canada including places like Jasper National Park, Banff, and the Shackleton Glacier.

Windborne was my favorite of the three different shows, as you really feel like you’re soaring on top of the mountain peaks and flying right over the pristine lakes.

Having been to a handful of the locations in Windborne, it was refreshing to recognize different views, and incredible to experience the different places in a way we didn’t get to while actually being on the ground there.

Throughout the entire show, I just kept saying, “Wow!” And, “How can this be real?!”. With mist, wind, and the ride itself turning and flowing, moving up and down with the different shots, it truly feels like you’re in person experiencing the views from above.

Wonders of the American West

The Wonders of the American West is the most popular Flyover Experience in Las Vegas. It takes passengers through twenty two different locations ranging from the dramatic California coastline to the colorful hot springs in Yellowstone National Park, and down through the iconic Monument Valley

There’s a shot in the Wonders of the American West that literally took my breath away, and another that truly makes you feel like you’re flipping in a circle with the plane in front of you.

The Wonders of the American West is the experience where I also smelt the most vivid smells, like gunfire from a movie set and coastal breeze along the West Coast.

Legendary Iceland : Landscapes and Lore

The Iceland Flyover experience is the most like a ride in my opinion. With fewer rules and regulations in Iceland than in The United States and Canada, the helicopter pilots were able to get closer to things and get into different canyons.

These tight-knit shots truly bring out the “ride” feeling in the Flyover Experience.

Legendary Iceland : Landscapes and Lore takes visitors through twenty-six different locations literally scattered all across Iceland. And holy smokes, the views are insane.

Flyers get to fly into the canyons, over the coastlines, and up close and personal to the many famous waterfalls in Iceland. Be careful, you may just feel like you’re actually going to fly into the waterfall with how close the helicopter pilot takes you!

Finishing up the Iceland Flyover experience, you’ll step off the ride forgetting that you’re actually in Las Vegas, and instead thinking you’re somewhere in beautiful Iceland.

Making The Most Of Your Flyover Experience

No matter which of the three shows you choose to experience, there are a few tips to make the experience even more immersive than it already is.

  1. As the seats move, move with them. When you feel the shots tilting forward, lean forward with it. It brings your senses to a whole new level.
  2. Don’t just look directly ahead. Be sure to look side to side too.. the screen is huge and you don’t want to miss any of it.
  3. Allow the Flyover to take you on a journey, by fully immersing yourself in the pre-show experience, and then sitting in your seat, not worrying about what others around you are doing.
  4. Ride it more than once. There are discounts for this, and in my experience, the second time I took the Wonders of the American West journey, I saw things I didn’t catch before and felt even more in the air than the first time.
  5. Finish your Flyover experience with a themed drink at The Lost Cactus Bar. The drinks are beautiful and play with the themes of each show, bringing your tastebuds along for the journey.

Extra Things To Know About Flyover Las Vegas

Accessibility At The Flyover Las Vegas

For mobility accessibility, the entire experience is accessible. Getting off the Strip, there’s a ramped hallway leading guests down to The Lost Cactus and the theaters.

From there, each showroom is fully accessible, and those in wheelchairs can even experience the Flyover as everyone else does with two options.

Option One | You can be wheeled to the seat, and then transferred into a chair if someone in your party is capable of transferring you. However, the Flyover team knows that’s not practical for everyone, so they came up with a second option.

Option Two | You can be wheeled onto a platform that secures the wheelchair and then moves just as the Flyover seats do! This is an incredible adaptation for those unable to get themselves into the actual seats for the “ride”.

Motion Sickness While Experiencing The Flyover Film

Being a fully immersive ride means motion sickness is a possibility. You truly feel like you’re flying through the air in a first person point of view, and on the Wonders of the American West, you’ll even feel like you go upside-down during one of the shots.

This means, if you get motion sickness, you should probably take something beforehand to help or wear a motion sickness bracelet or patch

Alternatively, a few tips for getting motion sickness unexpectedly during the ride, are to look either right or left. This will help ground yourself and take away the motions, similar to looking at the horizon on a boat.

As a last resort, those feeling motion sickness can actually create an “x” with their arms, and the team watching the monitors of people on the ride will stop the ride and let that person get off.

Height + Age Requirements For The Flyover Attraction

While there is no age requirement for those allowed on the ride, there is a height requirement. Riders must be 40 inches tall to experience the Flyover ride.

When you sit in the seats of the Flyover experience, there’s a hashed mark on the seatback. If riders are under this mark, they must not only fasten their seatbelt, but also run their seatbelt through the strap between their legs

Things To Do Near The Flyover

The Lost Cactus Bar

The Lost Cactus Bar is the bar that is inside the Flyover building, and the presentation is king here.

The drinks are beautiful!

While you can get traditional drinks at the Lost Cactus, I recommend getting the drinks that play with the themes of the shows. There’s one made with Icelandic Vodka, a Prickly Pear Margarita, and even a sunset drink served with a smoking glass!

The drinks at The Lost Cactus Bar are cheaper than most drinks on the strip, coming in around $15-$18 a drink, and the atmosphere is much more relaxed and calm that other bars around.

And, you don’t have to take part in one of the Flyover journeys to enjoy a drink at this bar, but it is nice to pair the two.

The Nathan Burton Comedy Magic Show

The Nathan Burton Magic Show is said to be the best afternoon magic show on the strip. There are two shows daily, one at 2:00 and one at 4:00 and the shows are more than just a couple magic tricks!

The Nathan Burton Magic Show involves the crowd in the magic, has showgirls dancing and helping Nathan out, and is super kid-friendly / appropriate.. and yes, even with the showgirls.

Outside drinks and food are not allowed in the Nathan Burton show, however, you can purchase drinks from The Lost Cactus to go and enjoy the show with a flavorful drink in hand.

Be sure to use your magic show ticket for 30% off a Flyover Experience..or vice-versa. Trust us.. you really don’t want to miss out on either!
